On 23 August 2026, Dr. Dre and longtime business partner Jimmy Iovine put themselves firmly on the pro-tool side of music’s AI argument.

Hip-hop is experiencing one of those rare moments where its origin stories, unresolved history and next technology are all visible at once.

Dr. Dre’s career itself reads like a sequence of technology and institution shifts: N.W.A., the formation of Death Row, Aftermath, the Interscope partnership, Beats, Apple — and now an open embrace of AI as another production tool.
